Land-use Framework

Printable version

Alberta 's economic growth and increasing population are putting unprecedented pressure on our natural resources and environment. Land-use activities such as resource development, agriculture and recreation are occurring throughout the province; and with communities growing by leaps and bounds, the impact on public and private land is growing.

To ensure our children and grandchildren benefit from the land as much as we do today, we need to manage the land, and all the activity on and below it, in a responsible way.

The Government of Alberta is in the process of developing a Land-use Framework to address a wide range of land management issues. Completion of the framework is one of the key actions identified under Premier Stelmach’s plan to manage growth pressures and is part of the government’s Greening our Growth strategy.

Public input results available
  • Over 780 Albertans attended the public information and input sessions held in 15 locations across the province in May 2007.
  • More than 3,000 Albertans provided their input on land-use management issues by submitting completed Land-use Framework workbooks.
  • The Land-use Framework Workbook Summary Report and the Land-use Framework Survey Results are available on the Reports section of this site.

Development of the Land-use Framework is a Government of Alberta cross-ministry initiative. Participating ministries include Alberta Sustainable Resource Development; Alberta Energy; Alberta Environment; Alberta Agriculture and Food, Alberta Municipal Affairs and Housing; Alberta Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture; and Alberta International, Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Relations.
